Police on Wednesday impounded a tanker loaded with 745 boxes of Indian-made foreign liqour (IMFL) near Sarangpur village in the district on Tuesday night.

BJP councillor from ward number eight Pushpinder Kumar alleged that the liquor was meant to lure people for the November 10 Congress rally in Gohana and the truck bears a Rohtak registration number (HR 46-B-9178).

Officials said that sub-inspector Gulzar Singh was on patrol duty when a tanker coming from Punjab stopped on seeing the police party.

They said the driver panicked on seeing the police and fled from the spot leaving behind the vehicle.
On checking the tanker, IMFL boxes were found in the vehicle, which was impounded.

Police said that hunt was on for the driver adding that the excise department had been informed while further investigations were on.
