8 of marriage party killed in Naraingarh head-on crash

Eight persons of a marriage party were killed and three critically injured in a head-on collision between a Tavera and truck near Gadhauli crossing on the Naraingarh-Sadhura road on Tuesday.

The victims were on their way to Mirjapur Mehta in Uttar Pradesh to attend a marriage function when a tyre of Tavera burst following which the driver lost control over the vehicle and it rammed into a truck coming from the opposite side.

Police said while seven persons died on the spot, Tavera driver succumbed to his injuries on way to PGI, Chandigarh. Eyewitnesses said the truck overturned after the collision. The deceased have been identified as Abhimanyu, 50, Lila, 40, Hukum Singh, 35, Kama, 37, Angrej Singh, 40, Sonu, 25 --- all residents of Baras village in Karnal --- Dhum Singh, 62, of Bathod village in Panchkula and Kuldeep alias Tinku.

Rescuers had to use gas-cutters to extricate bodies from the mangled Tavera. Police have booked the truck driver after impounding the vehicle.
