Fresh charges have been framed against actors Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam and Sonali Bendre in the 14-year old blackbuck poaching case.

While Salman, who is reportedly in the US for medical treatment, failed to appear before a local court here on Saturday, charges were read out to the others.

The poaching allegedly occurred during the shooting of Rajshri Productions “Hum Saath Saath Hain” in 1998.

Appearing before the chief judicial magistrate (rural), Saif, Tabu, Neelam and Sonali Bendre denied the charges against them under various sections of the Wildlife Protection Act and Indian Panel Code and sought trial.

Salman is the key accused in the case of poaching of endangered blackbucks in Kankani village of Jodhpur district as well as in two other cases of poaching around the same time.

The actors appeared before CJM (rural) Chandra Kala Jain on Saturday morning. A huge crowd of fans assembled at the court premises to see the film stars, despite tight security. Following the orders of the Rajasthan HC, the court was to reframe the charges against the actors on February 4, but hearing was postponed as the CJM was on leave.
