Union home ministry has issued an advisory to all state police forces to remain alert in the wake of the hanging of Afzal Guru on Saturday.
During his 12-year stay in Tihar Jail's high-security wards, 2001 Parliament terror attack case convict Mohammed Afzal Guru, 43, was known as a high-profile inmate who was discreet and wary of strangers.

A general alert was sounded in the Capital as soon as Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru was hanged in the premises of Tihar jail.

Hours after Afzal Guru, convicted in the 2001 Parliament attack case, was hanged in Tihar Jail, the chiefs of both factions of the Hurriyat Conference — Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umer Farooq — were put under house arrest by the Delhi Police as a preventive measure on Saturday.
Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah was taken into confidence on Afzal Guru’s hanging 10 days ago, highly-placed government sources told HT. Abdullah, who met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in Delhi on January 31, was asked what fallout the hanging would have in his state.
The BJP and RSS welcomed Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru's hanging but said the government's step was a "delayed action" and his execution should have happened much earlier as the Supreme Court had confirmed his punishment in 2005.
