AAP’s Delhi candidate embroiled in family feud

Aam Admi Party (AAP) leader Shazia Ilmi’s 80-year-old mother on Tuesday dared her daughter to carry out her alleged threat to have her arrested.

Naushaba Ilmi, who has sided with her other children in a property dispute with Shazia and the latter’s elder brother Irshad, told newspersons: “I am ready to go to jail to escape her torture. But I will continue to fight for justice that she and her elder brother Irshad (Ilmi) are denying to my other children.”

“I am feeble but not dispirited. I cannot allow them (Shaiza and Irshad) to usurp the share of my other children, in my lifetime,” said the woman who had filed a police complaint against her daughter two years ago, apprehending a threat to her life. Shazia is an anti-corruption crusader and AAP candidate for the RK Puram seat in the Delhi assembly election.

On Tuesday, she was responding to the legal notice Shazia sent her after a video of hers with allegations about Shazia was uploaded on her son’s facebook page.

The notice was sent through senior Supreme Court lawyer and AAP leader Prashant Bhushan.

Naushaba had sought police protection two years ago when Shazia allegedly abused her and became aggressive during an effort to resolve the property dispute.

Thereafter, the police guarded her Chamangunj house in Kanpur for 40 days.
