Though AAP leader Somnath Bharti, who later joined a protest against corruption in MCD in front of the DC office, said there were no people from the party who were involved in the assault, the executive engineer claimed that his attackers were wearing the trademark AAP caps.

Bharti and a small contingent later met the South zone DC and submitted his demands.

“MCD should do a survey of all properties belonging to leaders of all political parties starting from Prime Minister, Union government ministers, MPs, MLAs and councilors to draw a list of properties in violation of building bylaws. Action should be taken against them first before targeting the common man,” Bharti said, adding that people are fed-up of the building department of the civic body.

“There is a nexus between the local councillor, junior engineer, assistant engineer and SHO. They will allow construction to start. Then after some time, they come and ask for money. Give us this much or we will demolish,” the AAP leader said,

The executive engineer, who was allegedly assaulted, told Hindustan Times he was attacked by men wearing AAP caps. “I was coming into office. I didn’t know what had happened but they started manhandling me,” the official, who went to Safdurjang Hospital for a medical test, said.
