A day after the Centre came out with stringent norms curbing the sale of acid in the open market to prevent its misuse, a 24-year-old youth threw acid on his neighbour, a 45-year-old woman and her daughter in Tirunelveli, 650km south of Chennai, on Wednesday.

When Seetha rushed to help her mother, she had acid thrown on her as well. Both have been admitted at the Tirunelveli Government Hospital. Chidambarammal has 50% burns and Seetha 20%.

Sundaram was sent to Tirunelveli central jail.
