"During Mahajan's birthday celebrations held recently, BJP workers showed disrespect to the national tricolour", said Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Ajay Singh.

This was a serious offence for which a criminal case should be filed against Mahajan and she should be removed from all posts held by her in the BJP, he demanded.

When contacted, a BJP spokesperson said he can neither confirm nor deny the incident and refused to come on record.

Sumitra Mahajan was not available for comment.
