Justice JA Patil, who headed the Adarsh judicial commission, apparently did not approve of the Cabinet’s decision of accepting it partially. He refused to make any official comment but dropped enough indications that he was disappointed with the developments.

Retired High Court Justice, when contacted by HT said, “It is not appropriate for me to make comment on each development on the issue. I have no comments on Cabinet decision”.

Justice Patil had earlier also indicated his displeasure when government rejected commission findings. He had stated that government should ask itself whether its decision was judicious, arbitrary and serve any public interest.

Even though Justice Patil agreed with government prerogative to accept or reject commission findings, he had emphasized on public interest behind setting up of such commission. Patil had also welcomed Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s advise to Maharashtra government to reconsider its decision, which was another indicator of his displeasure.

Patil had earlier said that he ws neither surprised nor unhappy with government decision.
