The Income Tax department on Monday hauled up mining baron G Janardhan Reddy, asking him to furnish details of the expenses incurred on the wedding of his daughter Bramhani on November 16 in Bengaluru.
The event, on which Reddy is said to have splurged over Rs 500 crore, had made headlines.
The I-T department also conducted surveys at about 10 locations, including the offices of Obulapuram Mining Company and Associated Mining Company, the two companies through which Reddy ran the iron ore mining business. Reddy is facing charges of corruption over alleged illegal mining of iron ore in the district.
The offices of event management firms, catering and multi-media service providers are also believed to have been surveyed.
A complaint was lodged against the wedding by activist T Narasimha Murthy with the Directorate General of Income Tax (Investigations) on November 15. In the complaint, Murthy had questioned how “such an extravagant marriage function could take place” despite Reddy’s assets being attached by the Enforcement Directorate.
Though the I-T department is tight-lipped over the raids on Reddy’s offices and residence in Bellary, it is learnt the authorities made telephonic enquiries with some celebrities and also event managers from Hyderabad, who were part of the wedding.
Actor and dubbing artiste Sai Kumar, heroines Rakul Preet Singh and Priyamani and television anchor Pradeep who performed at the wedding are said to be among those questioned by the I-T authorities.
