The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday attached Udhampur deputy commissioner Niraj Kumar after his alleged objectionable pictures with some girls in a hotel room went viral.
“Pending inquiry into his conduct, Niraj Kumar is hereby attached to the office of the Jammu divisional commissioner,” read an order issued by under secretary to the government Amrik Singh.
Udhampur ADC Arvind Sharma will officiate as DC till further orders, it added.
Besides others, the copy of the order has been marked to the principal secretary to chief minister Mehbooba Mufti.
In four pictures on social media sites such as Facebook and WhatsApp, Kumar, a 2010-batch officer, is seen on a bed with two young girls.
While the government has ordered a probe into the matter, Hindustan Times could not independently verify the veracity of the pictures. “At this stage, nothing can be said. Let’s wait for the probe report,” said a senior government official. Despite repeated attempts, Kumar could not be contacted.
