Baba Ramdev who has repeatedly hinted to float a political party ahead of the Lok Sabha polls is wooing Nepalese community staying in India. Baba claimed that he would fight for the rights of community under ‘Hamro Swabhiman’ (Our Pride) campaign.
Ramdev’s trusted lieutenant Balkrishna, who is facing CBI probe for obtaining Indian Passport by not disclosing his Nepalese identity, will lead the campaign.
“We (Nepalese) are being looked with suspicion. We are Nepalese and this is not a reason to shame”, Balkrishan said in his address in a two day conference in Haridwar. Nearly 1,500 delegates from 20 states are attending the conference that started on Sunday.
Ramdev backed Balkrishna's statement and added that community is facing step motherly treatment.
“Although Nepalese enjoy constitutional rights but they are practically facing problems in enjoying political, social and economic rights” said Ramdev. “We are here to end this step motherly treatment”.
A battery of stars from the community including Indian Idol fame Prakash Tamang, Arjuna award recipient footballer Padam Bahadur Mall, Justice Anand Prakash Subba and Nepali singer Murlidhar were among some of the prominent names that were present at the conference.
It was first of its kind gathering at Ramdev’s Patanjali Yogpeeth for the Indian origin Nepalese or Gorkhalis as the community popularly known.
