An IPS officer, who was arrested for allegedly extorting money from SHOs of police stations in the district by misusing his official powers, was on Thursday remanded in one-day police custody by local court in Ajmer.
Rajesh Meena's alleged agent who used to extort money from SHOs on his behalf was also remanded in one-day police custody.
District SP Meena, who has been suspended, along with Ramdev was caught by a team of anti-corruption bureau at his official residence on Wednesday.
They were produced in a lower court on Thursday where the magistrate remanded them in one-day police custody.
"Both of them were arrested following recovery of unaccounted cash to the tune of Rs. 5.05 lakh from the residence and Ramdev's subsequent confession that he had collected the money from SHOs on the SP's behalf," DIG ACB Govind Narayan said.
The bureau had information that Ramdev, who came in contact with Meena during the officer's posting in Jodhpur, used to collect money from SHOs on his behalf and deliver the amount to him.
Ramdev had gone to deliver the collection to the SP following which the ACB team conducted a raid and founded a bag containing unaccounted Rs. 2.05 lakh cash.
Another amount of Rs. 3 lakh recovered from the house later.
Sources said that one additional SP and some SHOs are also on the ACB radar and may be quizzed by the ACB in this connection.
Meanwhile, department of personnel also issued the order to suspend Meena with immediate effect, sources said.
Meena, who was promoted from Rajasthan Police Service to IPS, was posted as Ajmer SP since October, 2011.
It is the first case in the state when an officer of SP rank is in the ACB net, sources said.
Last year, a probationary IPS officer Ajay Singh was suspended for taking bribe of Rs. 1.5 lakh during his posting as the ASP in Ajmer.
The probationary IPS officer was working under the supervision of Meena.
