Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Friday accepted the resignation of the minister of state for revenue Vinod Singh alias Pandit Singh, who was allgedly involved in the abduction of chief medical officer Gonda SP Singh last Monday.
However Pandit Singh said he had resigned from the post on moral grounds.
The minister and his goons had abducted the CMO after he refused to include the name of minister's supporters in the selection list of contractual doctors.
According to reports, further penal action including registration of FIR against the sacked minister and his supporters could not be ruled out. The government has been collecting more information in this connection.
The health minister Ahmad Hasan had submitted a preliminary report to the chief minister on Thursday.
However, the sacked minister claimed that he was victim of conspiracy by the district magistrate and the CMO becasue he had objected to the rampant corruption in the appointment of the contractual doctors.
The SP's district vice-president Afaq Warsi said that DM and CMO had allegedly hatched conspiracy against the minister.
In a letter to chief minister the local leaders have also sought probe into large-scale bungling in the appointment of contractual doctors in the district.
The general secretary Pramod Pandey said "even before Pandit Singh could draw the attention of the chief minister over appointment scam in health department, the DM and CMO faked a case against him".
