The man caught on camera was Prashant Kumar, station house officer (SHO) of Powakhali police station in Kishanganj district of north-eastern Bihar.

"Based on video evidence, Kumar has been found guilty of dereliction of duty. He has been suspended and further disciplinary action will be initiated against him", said Kishanganj superintendent of police (SP) Manoj Kumar.

The SP said Kishanganj ASP Hari Kishor Rai had been asked to probe the matter. "Thakuganj inspector Paras Nath Singh has been given additional charge of the Powakhali police station", he told reporters on Friday.

Police sources said ASP had found the charges leveled against the SHO to be true.

According to police sources, the video footage also showed a heavily drunk Kumar intimidating locals with his service revolver. Later, he allegedly ordered a lathi charge on some people who were celebrating Holi.

The locals complained about the SHO's misconduct to the SP, who after studying the video footage taken in mobile phones, took action against the erring police officer.
