Arrest Guwahati molesters, Assam CM sets deadline

Amid public outrage, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi has set a deadline for the police to nab the all the accused identified in the Guwahati molestation case.

Gogoi on Friday also constituted a one-member inquiry commission on the incident in the heart of the city on the night of July 9.

Gogoi formed the commission under Emily Das Chowdhary, official sources said.

Directing arrest of all the culprits, Gogoi ordered immediate disciplinary action against police officials found guilty of dereliction of duty over the incident.

A 16-year-old girl was molested by around 30 men in full public view for about half an hour on Monday night outside a posh nightclub.

The incident would have gone un-noticed but for the footage uploaded on Youtube on July 10. It sparked outrage across the nation — highlighting, as it does, the increasing incidence of lawlessness and crimes against women.

Public pressure finally forced the police to act, and on July 11 and 12, four arrests were made, although main accused Amarjyoti Kalita is still roaming free.

The photos of the man identified as the main accused in the Guwahati mob molestation case are being shared on social networking site Facebook as a rapist who who deserves the maximum punishment.

Amid public outcry, Assam police arrested four people from the 11 that it has identified as part of a mob.

According to reports, the men arrested are Dhanraj Basfar, a sweeper, Puspendu Das, a shopkeeper, Md Habijuddin, and 18-year-old Bikash Tiwari.

Those identified but not arrested are Rubul Ali, Debo Das, a man with the surname Baruah, Dipak Dey an auto driver, Tinku Deb and Bablu.
