Arrival of paddy is fast picking up in mandis of Haryana as compared to the corresponding period last year with 59% more paddy having arrived during the current season.
A spokesperson of the food and supplies department said that more than 6.45 lakh metric tonnes of paddy had so far arrived in various mandis of the state during the current procurement season as compared to procurement of over 4.03 lakh metric tonnes in the corresponding period last year. Of the total arrival of paddy, about 25,203 metric tonnes of paddy has been purchased by the millers.
Out of the total paddy purchased by the government agencies, food and supplies department has purchased 3 lakh metric tonnes, HAFED 1.65 lakh metric tonnes, Food Corporation of India 89,000 metric tonnes, Agro Industries Corporation 77,194 metric tonnes, Haryana Warehousing Corporation 49,974 metrict tones and CONFED has purchased 27,736 metric tonnes of paddy, he said.
He said that Kurukshetra district was leading in paddy arrival with 2.34 lakh metric tonnes of paddy followed by Karnal with 1.95 lakh metric tonnes. Ambala ranked third in the paddy arrival with 88,396 metric tonnes while in Kaithal about 94,000 metric tonnes of paddy has arrived.
