Self-styled godman Asaram, who is facing charges of sexually assaulting a minor girl in Jodhpur, has been found to be potent during a medical examination done on him on Sunday.

“The report of the potency test carried out upon Asaram has been found positive,” Jodhpur police commissioner Biju George Joseph told Hindustan Times.

He said the police had asked for the potency test, the report of which was submitted on Sunday.

A team of doctors comprising a neurologist, physician and urologist found him fit and his blood pressure and health parameters were found fine.

Earlier Joseph said at a media conference prime facie the allegation against Asaram was “looking to be true”.

The police had collected evidence against him, but those could not be disclosed now, he said.

“We want to make the case watertight and are looking for some more facts and evidence,” Joseph said.

He said the police had recreated the crime scene during spot verification with the accused on Sunday evening at his Manai ashram, around 30 km from Jodhpur.

He said the godman was taking food and water and had not demanded any special facility.

Asaram is innocent, says lawyer

Terming the sexual assault case against Asaram ‘a conspiracy’, his lawyer said on Sunday the godman was innocent and the matter was fabricated.

“Asaram is innocent and has been falsely fabricated,” Rajasthan high court senior attorney Jagmal Singh Choudhary said.

“We will prove who was behind this conspiracy,” Asaram’s counsel said, adding that lodging the FIR five days after the supposed offence indicated that a conspiracy was afoot and the FIR was filed in Delhi instead of Jodhpur.
