Assam Rifles jawan killed in encounter with ATTF

A jawan of Assam Rifles was killed in an encounter with the insurgents of outlawed All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) at Jamirlong, a remote tribal hamlet in West Tripura district, police sources said on Saturday.

A group of 5-6 ATTF insurgents armed with sophisticated weapons attacked Assam Rifles jawans, who were conducting a search operation on Thursday evening at Jamirlong about 25 km away from Sidhai police station.

The Assam Rifles jawans also opened fire in retaliation, the gunfight continued for 15-minute. The ultras then fled under cover of forest in bad light. A jawan of Assam Rifles, P Vishiho was critically injured in the encounter, sources said.

The injured jawan was admitted to Agartala Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday, sources added.
