Heavy shopping rush led to ATMs at key locations running out of cash here on Saturday.

Most of the ATMs kept displaying 'no money' notices till late in the evening, owing to heavy transactions by the shoppers. To add to the woes of the shoppers, some machines in the market place were also out of order forcing them to look for other alternatives such as card payments.

Not only shoppers, but local businesses were also affected by the inconvenience. Om Prakash Hooda, a cab agency owner, rued that he had to drive till Hisar bye-pass to fetch cash as most of the machines en-route did not dispense any money.

During such a visit by this correspondent between 1 pm and 2.30pm, three out of four ATM machines at Sheela bypass had gone cashless. Other prime locations to witness the same inconvenience were Tau Nagar on the Sonepat road and Sonepat stand, which bears proximity to mini-secretariat, court complex and the Government College of Women.

ATM's were also out of cash at Ashok Mor branch of a private bank. Users were left stranded as the bank officials informed them of a network error that did not allow proper functioning of the ATM machines. However, the officials were sans any satisfactory reply when asked about how long it would take to resume the service.
