Babus indicted of fraudulent Leave Travel Concession (LTC) claims will lose travel allowance for next two or more years, the government said on Wednesday.

“In case of LTC if any fraudulent claim is made, the irregularities are looked into in terms of the Central Civil Services (LTC) Rules, 1988 and disciplinary proceedings are initiated against the government servant. If found guilty, the government servant shall not be allowed the next two or more sets of LTC in addition to the sets already withheld during the pendency of the disciplinary proceedings,” minister of state for personnel, public grievances and pensions Jitendra Singh said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

The central vigilance commission (CVC) last year had alerted the department of personnel and training (DoPT) about irregularities and misuse in availing LTC by babus in the central government and public sector units in violation of the guidelines.

The government then ordered a CBI inquiry into the matter.

The agency found prima facie “criminality” in the case involving senior officials of Rajya Sabha Secretariat and some PSUs in claiming LTC.
