The CBI has recovered a pair of slippers belonging to the elder of the two teenage girls allegedly gang raped and murdered in UP's Badaun district in May.

The pair's forensic analysis could give clues about the perpetrators and sequence of events.

The slippers were allegedly retrieved from the residence of the victim's family, which has sharpened CBI's doubts about the family to have hidden the slippers so far and handing them over only after cajoling, said a CBI source.

According to the source, the slippers bore some "marks" that have been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for examination to see if they were some type of body fluid. A victim's relative, however, rejected the CBI's allegations and alleged that the local police had taken away the personal particulars.

"The girl's family had not handed over the slippers to us earlier, which she wore on the fateful day. We had asked them for her personal particulars including her mobile phone," said a CBI source. "Under sustained pressure from us, they finally agreed to hand over the slippers to us," said the source.

The elder victim's family had similarly allegedly hidden and partially-destroyed her mobile phone before handing it over to the CBI, as first reported by HT on June 29. The phone has been sent for forensic examination.
