As controversy over the Devyani Khobragade issue rages, the consul-general of Bahrain in Mumbai was accused of molesting a woman on Wednesday. But due to the immunity granted to diplomats, despite filing an FIR, the police are following protocol and would be sending a report to the ministry of external affairs for further action.

Mohammed Abdulaziz Al Khaja, 54, allegedly molested the woman, who works at the tony Malabar Hill housing society where he stays. The incident took place on December 9, when the building's elevator was not functioning.

"In her complaint, the woman said Al Khaja was slamming the door of the elevator, which was under repair. When she intervened, he verbally abused her and touched her inappropriately," said a police officer. Al Khaja then allegedly barged into the woman's office, and in a fit of rage, flung books at her. He tried to create a ruckus on December 20 as well.

A senior officer said they have not arrested the consul general on account of the diplomatic immunity he enjoys. "We would send the report to the MEA, which would decide on the future course of action," he added.
