To make matters worse, the defence argument that his 15-year-old victim was a mentally unsound adult who suffered from chronic diseases, was trounced on Wednesday.

“The victim has produced a certificate by the Central Board of Secondary Education, after which her age cannot be questioned,” said additional advocate general Anand Purohit. Plus, she had secured over 80% marks in her secondary examination, which proved that she was not only mentally fit, but also intelligent. “This plea was no more than a derogatory comment,” he said.
