A caretaker of a play school allegedly tortured six students by branding their hands with a hot metal rod in an attempt to discipline them. The incident was reported at Building Blocks Daisy School in the Whitefield area of southeast Bangalore on Tuesday.
The parents of the victims protested in front of the school, resorted to vandalism and lodged a complaint with the police on the basis of which the caretaker, V Sujatha, 32, was arrested.
The police said Sujatha allegedly branded four girls and two boys aged between 3 and 5.
“Vijaykumar, a resident of Gandhipura, filed a case that his daughter along with five other students was tortured by the caretaker. Sujatha said she punished the students as they were behaving uncontrollably and had to be disciplined,” inspector Mohammed Rafi said.
School founder James Ambat told mediapersons, “We have suspended Sujatha as we do not tolerate corporal punishment."
A victim’s parent told HT: “My daughter is now afraid to go to school. She is being treated for physical injuries and psychological problems.”
