Madhya Pradesh Medical Officers' Association president Dr Ajay Khare on Monday alleged that some unknown people came to Katju Hospital, where he is posted, and threatened him to stop raising the issue of supply of substandard medicines in hospitals.
"Two men came on Saturday and another came today and threatened me that there will be consequences if I don't stop raising the issue of substandard medicines in Bhopal's healthcare facilities," he said. Dr Khare said he would make a formal complaint to the police on Tuesday.
"Before something happens to me, I want to at least put on record that I had been threatened on raising a matter of great public concern," he said.
On being asked whether he suspected that there was some lobby behind the threats, Dr Khare said it was obvious that medicine suppliers' interests would be hurt if the supply of substandard medicines is stopped and culprits are identified.
"But it is up to the authorities to identify such miscreants and take action against them for threatening doctors," he said.
