Following the visit, Justice Kochar has asked the officials of the MP Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) to give a fresh special report on the toxicity situation on the factory premises. He asked the officials to collect the samples of soil, water and the toxic waste dumps on the premises and come out with a report by August 23.

The one-man Justice Kochar commission was constituted by the state government in 2010 after the June 7 judgment in the criminal case of Bhopal gas tragedy. It was formed with the mandate of finding out the actual reasons that led to the worst industrial tragedy in the world.

Till now, Kochar had been conducting hearings on the case, summoning persons related to the tragedy and also looking at the documents related to the case. This is first time that he ventured into the ill-fated factory premises to take first hand stock of the situation.

Kochar along with officials of the MPPCB took a round of the abandoned factory premises.

He especially focused on toxic waste stored on the factory premises that has become huge point of controversy, especially in context of its disposal. However, Kochar was irked at the fact that the room storing the toxic waste remained locked and no one the district administration turned up to open the lock.
