As the Shatabdi Express chugged in the platform number 1 of Habibganj at 2.25pm on Monday, people’s long wait for its stoppage at this railway station came to an end.

Former MP of Bhopal, Kailash Joshi, Home minister Babulal Gaur, MP Alok Sanjar, state BJP president and MP Nand Kumar Singh Chouhan and MLAs Vishwas Sarang, Surendra Nath Singh, Vishnu Khatri and Rameshwar Sharma flagged off the train at 3pm at a function organised by the rail authorities.

While those who got off the train were greeted by the railway officials, those who boarded it were welcomed by the cadets of Scouts and Guides. As many as 250 passengers boarded the train.

"I am very happy. If you want to go to Bhopal railway station, you have to leave home about one hour before the scheduled departure of the train because of traffic jam," said AK Shende, a passenger.

Speaking on the occasion, home minister Babulal Gaur, who was demanding the extension of train up to Habibganj, said, "A long-pending demand was met today and we thank the Central government and railway minister Sadanand Gowda."

He blamed former railway minister Mamata Banerjee and others for ignoring the demand of the people of Bhopal.

New fares
There will be no change in fares from Habibganj to Mathura and New Delhi, according to railway officials. However, passengers have to pay extra charges for other stations from Habibaganj. In chair car (CC) class, the passengers will have to pay an extra amount of Rs. 5-15 and Rs. 10-20 for executive class.
