A 15-year-old girl from Bhopal, who had gone to a picnic spot with her boyfriend a few kilometres away from the Madhya Pradesh capital, was allegedly gang-raped by four youths, police said on Saturday.

The girl had gone to Mahadevpani - around 25 km from Bhopal - where the youths overpowered her 19-year-old boyfriend and tied him before raping her.

The four men, who had apparently spotted the couple at the desolate spot, took advantage of the fact that it was getting dark and there was no one around. After the incident, they escaped on motorcycles.

Later, the girl untied her friend and then returned to Bhopal. After reaching home, she told her parents who then informed the police the next day. The incident occurred late on Thursday evening.

Bhopal Police said the case has been forwarded to the Raisen Police as Mahadevpani falls under the jurisdiction of the adjoining district.

Superintendent of police, Riyaz Iqbal, said that after the girl's statement were recorded, the case diary was forwarded to Raisen.

Raisen's additional superintendent of police, Mukesh Bais, confirmed that a case of gang-rape has been registered in Kotwali police station.

"The Kotwali police are conducting investigation in this case and efforts are on to catch the culprits," said Bais.
