A 13-year-old girl, who was allegedly held captive and forced to do household work in the Katara Hills area, was rescued on Thursday.
A joint team of Child Line, Bagh Sewania police and child labour department raided a house at Global Park City in Katara Hills and rescued the girl.
Police said that the "traumatised" girl — identified as Nazma — could not give much details of her ordeal. She hails from a locality in Kolkata.
She was rescued from the house of Majid Siddique, a general manager with a tractor manufacturing company in Mandideep.
Child Line officials suspect it to be a case of child trafficking.
“Until her parents come here and ensure that they had sent her with Siddique, we cannot believe. It could be a case of child trafficking,” said Sunita Mishra, a member of Child Line.
She further said the girl was also beaten up by the couple whenever she refused to work.
Since the girl belongs to a poor family, Siddique had brought her about four years ago, promising that he would ensure her education.
He forced her to do household work and also to look after his three-year-old child, said Child Line officials.
Child Line was informed about the girl by an unidentified caller a few days ago.
“We did proper a recce and only when we were sure that the girl was held captive, we reached the house and rescued the girl. Since she is in trauma, she was unable to narrate the entire story,” said Komal Kanwar, counsellor of Child Line.
They later lodged a complaint with Bagh Sewanai police station and also informed girl’s parents.
The Siddique couple, however, refuted the charge and claimed that girl was one of their relative’s daughter.
“We have recently enrolled her at a government school. We never beat or scolded her. She is like our own child,” said Alamara, wife of Siddique.
