A routine trip to the washroom turned into a mid-air crisis after the pilot of an Air India flight got locked out of the cockpit, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing.
The Bangalore-bound AI flight that took off from Delhi on Monday morning with 135 passengers on board was forced to land in Bhopal after the pilot failed to enter the cockpit due to a technical snag in the door.
An AI official confirmed the incident.
"The commander had left the cockpit to visit the washroom and on returning, found the door locked. It had got jammed and all efforts to open it, even from inside by the co-pilot, failed," the official said.
The co-pilot contacted ground control and the flight was diverted to Bhopal, where technicians were called in to fix the door. It finally took off after the necessary clearance.
