Santosh Chaurasia, a medical student and a key accused in the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam was arrested by the anti-robbery squad of Delhi Police on Tuesday from the national capital.
Chaurasia was picked up from his hostel of Vardhman Medical College (Safdarjung Hospital) in New Delhi where he is pursuing an MBBS course.
He was absconding since his name surfaced in the PMT scam.
A team of special investigation team (SIT) Gwalior has reached Delhi from where he will be taken to Gwalior for questioning.
Chaurasia is accused of using unfair means to help many candidates to clear pre-PG and Pre-medical Test (PMT) from 2008 to 2012.
Chaurasia is considered to be close aide of Deepak Yadav, a kingpin of the PMT and pre-PG scam, who is in jail on judicial remand.
The SIT had declared a cash award of Rs. 15,000 on information for his arrest. SIT officials believe that they would get more evidence regarding the case after Chaurasia's arrest.
"The anti-robbery cell of Delhi police got information about Chaurasia and they detained him. Subsequently, they informed us about his arrest," said additional superintendent of police (ASP), Virendra Jain, who is also heading the SIT.
