Four months after a Swiss woman was robbed and gang-raped, a fast-track court in Datia district of Madhya Pradesh awarded life imprisonment to all six convicts on Saturday.
Additional District Judge Jitendra Sharma also imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 on each of the convicts and directed that Rs. 50,000 be paid to the victim.
The victim, a 38-year-old Swiss national, had come to India along with her husband on a holiday.
They were cycling from Orchha to Agra and had stopped near Jhadia village in Datia, 405 km north of Bhopal, when they were targeted by these six men.
After overpowering the tourists, the attackers first tied up the husband, then raped the woman one by one and then made away with the couple’s belongings including mobile phone, laptop and cash.
In the course of the trial, the victim had left the country and hence the identification of the arrested persons was done through video-conferencing.
