The youth was identified as Surendra Shilpakar alias Sonu, a resident of Ganesh Mandir Road Begamganj.

Town inspector (TI), Begamganj, Arvind Raghuvanshi, said a case has been registered and a manhunt has also been launched.

“Three people have been detained and are being quizzed. Preliminary investigation suggests it is a case of honour killing. However, the actual reason of the murder would be established only after completion of the investigation,” he said.

Sonu, who worked as a labourer at an under-construction building, had been missing since Sunday afternoon.

According to sources, Sonu along with his friend Afsar, who also worked with him, took R1,500 from the owner of the building in which he was employed. The duo then went to a market and bought some clothes there.

Afsar went home, but Sonu did not reach home till late at night. When his family members could not find him, they informed police.

A peon of the government school eventually spotted the body in a hall on the school premises and informed the police.

Police said the youth’s head had been brutally crushed with a heavy stone, which was recovered from the spot, and there were several serious injury marks on his body.

Police also said the corpse was missing its right arm. According to sources, that very arm had a girl’s name tattooed on it.
