Upset with TV images of two chowkidars and one sub-inspector (SI) of police dragging the decomposed body of an unidentified youth by rope, the Vaishali district administration has placed them under suspension with immediate effect and ordered a probe.

The incident happened on Monday when, on information received from locals, the Desari police fished out the body of an unidentified youth from the Ganga. With the help of a rope, the body was dragged through a muddy stretch of land to a dry spot.

The video went viral when a local youth filmed the incident and shared it with some Hajipur-based contributors of some TV news channels.

“When the video footage was played on some TV channels, the matter came to the knowledge of district authorities and we decided to take action in the matter. However, it has to be note the body was too decomposed to pick up by hand. Anyhow, we sent it for post-mortem,” said Vaishali SP Rakesh Kumar.

“The two chowkidars, namely Hussain Uddin and Raj Kishor, have been suspended by district magistrate Rachana Patil on my recommendation. Besides, I have suspended SI Taleswar Tudu with immediate effect in connection with the incident”, SP Kumar said.

The police had not succeeded in establishing identity of the dead person, till the time this report was filed Thursday afternoon.
