Law has caught up with one more criminal neta. Balia MP Surajbhan Singh, a mafia don who has several criminal cases pending against him in Bihar
and neighbouring Uttar Pradesh,
was on Tuesday found guilty in a 1992 murder case.
Surajbhan, who won on a Lok Janshakti Party ticket, is the third sitting MP from Bihar to be convicted in criminal cases.
The fast track court, which found him and two of his aides guilty of killing Rami Singh, a farmer, in Madhurapur village of Begusarai, will pronounce the punishment on Wednesday.
The punishment could either be life imprisonment or the death penalty. Two other sitting legislators convicted by different courts earlier — RJD MP from Siwan Mohammad Shahabuddin and Purnia MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav — had been awarded life in jail.
Surajbhan and his accomplices Radhe Singh and Jaijairam Singh have been sent to the Begusarai district jail.
Following years of delay in the case, the Patna HC had asked the fast track court to complete the trial and pronounce the judgment by June 28. The trial was delayed for two months following the murder of assistant public prosecutor Ram Naresh Sharma in Begusarai last year.
