Nishi Kumari, alias Gudia, the daughter of legislator Dinesh Prasad Singh was abducted from Muzaffarpur, about 70 kms from Patna, on May 4.

Nishi was allegedly abducted by some powerful people for ransom, according to the police complaint filed by her family.

"Five people were named accused, including a village body head, for the abduction," Tirhut range Deputy Inspector General of Police Gupteshwar Pandey said.

The MLA received the ransom call on Thursday night, he said.

Police are carrying out raids to trace the girl. No arrests have been made in the connection.

Three days ago, seven-year-old Gopichand, the son of a businessman, was abducted from a village in Siwan district. Police have yet to trace him. He was allegedly abducted at gunpoint from Rasoolpur-Chakri village in Siwan district, 150 kms from Patna, late on Wednesday.

"A group of armed criminals forcibly entered businessman Premchand Mishra's house and abducted his son," police said.

The whereabouts of Patna boy, six-year-old Ankit, remains unknown even a month after his abduction despite his servant's arrest in the connection.

According to officials, there were over 2,000 cases of kidnapping in 2006 alone. Earlier this year, the Patna High Court had directed the state government to trace the 144 children and 581 women who had gone missing since 2001.
