Claiming that Congress was the party of common masses, downtrodden and poor, Gandhi said BJP could never work for underprivileged as it was a party of rich and corporates.

"We want to take country on path of progress, but the saffron party has always halted the development and taken the country back," said Gandhi while addressing a rally at Banikhet of Dalhousie assembly segment in Chamba district.

"They are only concerned about rich and their kith and kin," he added.

Gandhi said Congress could not forget the contribution of poor people and labruours in the progress of country and their power.

"Congress knows the power of poor so our programs are also focused on their upliftment," said Gandhi adding that MNREGA was one such example in which employment of 100 days was guaranteed for the poor people.

Gandhi alleged that it was BJP that had opposed MNREGA terming it wastage of money and when UPA government took the decision to wave off the loans of poor farmers saffron party again opposed the move.

Maintaining that BJP has always objected to the public welfare schemes, Gandhi said when his father had talked of bringing computers the top BJP leaders had given a lengthy speech opposing the move.

He said the Centre government has now decided to bring FDI in retail sector and it was aimed at benefit of farmers and consumer but BJP is opposing it.

"But we are also determined to pass it in the parliament and will do it," said Gandhi.

Further lambasting BJP, Gandhi said the party raise unnecessary hue and cry over the corruption but the same party had opposed RTI that was aimed at bringing the transparency in administration.

"We brought Lokpal bill and passed in Loksabha but who stalled it. BJP," said Gandhi.

Claiming that Congress has taken action against corruption, but BJP took no action against its top leader who was facing corruption charges.

"They don't see the corruption prevailing in Himachal, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka while the public is saying openly about it," alleged Gandhi.

Gandhi said the only solution to the problem is that youth will have to come into politics. "We have made efforts by opening the door of politics for common workers by introducing election system and lot of youth has come forward," said Gandhi.

Confident over the Congress's win in Himachal, Gandhi said no development has taken place in the state in past five years and Congress will form the government of common people in the state.

Urging the electors to vote for Congress, Gandhi said the UPA government at centre and state government will work in coordination to bring a revolutionary change in the state.

Among others who addressed the rally were, union ministers, Anand Sharma, Chandresh Kumari and AICC General Secretary, Digvijay Singh. Rahul also paid floral tribute to his grandmother, Indira Gandhi on her martyrdom day.
