Tension gripped Dasna town in Ghaziabad late on Monday night after a loud explosion took place inside a small room located at the basement of a local mosque.

The incident took place around 10pm at the basement of the Tazi Wali mosque.

Residents said that a huge explosion took place with a deafening sound that caused cracks on the windows and walls.

Police officials, however, remained clueless about what could have triggered the explosion.

“At this point of time, we do not know the reason behind the incident. We have called for a bomb-disposal squad who will check the site and come out with more details that led to the incident. There have been no injuries or any loss of life," senior superintendent of police (SSP) Prashant Kumar said.

Police sources said the explosion took inside a small room located at the basement of the mosque that generally remains locked and unoccupied.

Dasna town was much in controversy in September, 2012, after several defaced pages of a religious book were found near railway tracks with abusive words and a mobile number written over them.

Later, police had to open fire as an angry mob torched the Masuri police station on NH-24 and damaged dozens of vehicles.
