The border standoff between India and China has not seen further signs of escalation following PM Narendra Modi’s talks with Chinese Premier Xi Jinping at the sidelines of the G20 summit, government told political leaders on Saturday.

Even as China played down the brief interaction between the two PMs, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj indicated that the two leaders had constructive talks at her meeting with political leaders over China. When Akali Dal leader Naresh Gujral sought to know if people can be satisfied with the Modi-Xi meeting, both Swaraj and foreign secretary S Jaishshankar maintained that since then, the standoff has not escalated and there are signs of things cooling down.

Jaishankar said that Indian ambassador in Beijing and others are in touch with Chinese authorities. But he emphasized that the situation is not as serious as portrayed by the media.
