Six members of a family, including four children, in Uttarakhand’s Nainital district died in their sleep after boulders loosened by the flood and rains flattened their house on Wednesday night.

As the weather remained erratic, choppers could make only a limited number of sorties to transport ration to disaster-affected districts such as Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi and Chamoli.

Meanwhile, a lake formed by the melting of glaciers at Satopanth in Chamoli district poses a threat to Badrinath, Joshimath and Karnaprayag.

“We have issued an alert following instructions from the state Disaster Management and Mitigation department,” said the Chamoli district magistrate, A Murugesan.
