British national held with satellite phone in HP

The Palampur police on Sunday detained a British woman identified as Iswel for illegally carrying a satellite phone. The police was detecting the signal of satellite phone for quite some time.

According to police officials, the signal was traced in Palampur on Sunday, following which the woman was arrested. In the preliminary investigation, it was found that the woman, who runs a study centre in US, was on an educational tour to India and was not aware that use of satellite phones without permission is prohibited in India.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case under the Telegraph Act, 1933.
