Sarah Groves' father, Victor Groves, said that his daughter was suppose to go to Sri Lanka but altered her plans and went to India instead.

He added that they had tried hard to stop her from going there, the BBC reports.

The body of Groves, a former Blanchelande College student, was found on a houseboat hotel in Srinagar on Saturday.

It is believed she had been stabbed.

Indian police said a Dutch national, Richard de Wit, who is in his 40s, had confessed to killing Groves.
