Bahujan Samaj Party MP Dhananjay Singh's wife Jagriti Singh, who was arrested in Delhi on Tuesday for her alleged involvement in the death of one of her domestic helps and assault of another, has been accused of having a 'short fuse' and being aggressive by another aide, investigators said.

A 17-year-old employed by the couple in violation of law, has told investigators that he and other domestic helps at the MP’s South Avenue residence in New Delhi were subject to systematic torture, forced starvation and violent whimsical outbursts of Jagriti Singh.

It is alleged that it was one of such outbursts by Jagriti Singh on the day of Diwali that proved fatal for Rakhi Bhadra, a 35-year-old woman from West Bengal who was employed at the MP’s house in South Avenue.

The 17-year-old told the police that he had not "exactly seen Rakhi die", but he did see her in pain after a brutal beating by Jagriti. The teen, who was traumatised by the incident,  told police that Rakhi collapsed after sometime and was given first aid by Jagriti.

By Monday morning, Rakhi's condition deteriorated and she died.

"Jagriti called her husband and told him that Rakhi had fallen off the staircase - which, according to residents, was always locked - and seemed to have died," said an investigating officer, who didn’t want to be named, said citing the 17-year-old’s testimony.

The BSP MP has been accused of destroying evidence of Jagriti's brutality. Before calling the police, he allegedly removed the hard drive of the CCTV camera network installed at their home.

Dhananjay Singh has refuted the charges and has said that Jagriti had called him three days before the incident and told him that the maid had injured herself after a fall from the terrace of the house.

"While Rakhi has injury marks all over her body, the 17-year-old has burn marks, wounds from a smashed head and bruises on his limbs," the officer added.

Jagriti has been booked for murder, attempt to murder and for assaulting a juvenile. Her husband, a Lok Sabha MP from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, was booked for concealment of evidence.

Dhananjay and Jagriti, who fell in love in 2005 when the latter was studying dentistry in Lucknow, had filed for divorce seven months ago in a city court.
