CBI arrests income tax commissioner, 5 others on corruption charges

IT commissioner BB Rajendra Prasad and the other accused allegedly demanded bribe from a private firm.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested the income tax commissioner and five other senior officials over bribery allegations.

BB Rajendra Prasad, a 1992 IAS batch officer, was arrested from Visakhapatnam while four others were taken into custody from Mumbai. Prasad was posted in the appeals division of IT department’s Mumbai office.

“The complaint was that the officials had demanded illegal gratification for favouring a private firm,” said RK Gaur, the CBI spokesperson. Four arrests were made in Mumbai while the other two were made in Vishakhapatnam, CBI sources said. Of the six, two of arrested are not from the IT department.

Source said during the searches, Rs 1.5 crore was seized by the agency, PTI reported.
