The CBI announced a special investigation team on Thursday to expedite probes in important cases including those pertaining to liquor tycoon Vijay Mallya and AgustaWestland corruption charges.
The SIT will be headed by Gujarat IPS officer Rakesh Asthana.
The Central Bureau of Investigation is investigating a loan made by state-run IDBI Bank Ltd to now-defunt Kingfisher Airlines. The agency is looking into why the loan was approved when the airline had a negative net worth and a negative credit rating.
The agency is also probing the Rs 3,727-crore VVIP chopper deal over charges of bribery.
Since March 2013, when the CBI registered a first information report to probe allegations that the choppers’ manufacturers, UK-based AW Limited, used middlemen to bribe influential Indians to tweak the deal in its favour, it has sent formal request to eight countries seeking money-tail transaction details.
