The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sent a fresh reminder to Nepalese authorities for details on yoga guru Ramdev’s aide Balkrishna’s birthplace.

In the absence of a treaty for mutual legal assistance between India and Nepal, the agency is unable to get the response expedited, said a CBI source.

Around two years ago, in December 2011, the CBI had sought the details from Nepalese authorities via its judicial request — Letters Rogatory (LR) — but is yet to get a response, thereby delaying its probe.

The agency has already chargesheeted Balkrishna for the alleged use of fake educational certificates to procure his Indian passport.

“We have asked the Nepalese authorities if they could furnish details on Balkrishna’s birthplace. We are probing claims that he was born in India then taken back to Nepal when he was three-month old,” said the source.

According to the Indian Citizenship act, a person born in India between January 26, 1950 and July 1, 1987, automatically becomes the country’s citizen. “If we get an adverse response, we would take the probe further,” said the source.
