In a bizarre turn of events, a groom landed in police lockup on the charges of rape on the day of his marriage.

The incident occurred in the Kanchak area on the outskirts of Jammu, where police detained a groom, Rajinder, on the complaint of a girl who accused him of sexually exploiting her for years on the promise of marriage.

In her complaint, the girl alleged that she was having an affair with Rajinder, a resident of a village in the Kanacahk area for the past several years. Rajinder had reportedly promised to marry her.

On the pretext of marriage, the accused allegedly sexually exploited the girl on numerous occasions. Later, he did not fulfil his commitment and decided to marry another girl. The marriage was to be solmenised on September 12.

On getting the news of his marriage, the complainant reminded Rajinder of his promise, but the latter paid no heed to her. Meanwhile, the accused remained firm on marrying the other girl.

The complainant narrated the story of her relationship with Rajinder to her parents. The family also approached the accused and pleaded him to marry their daughter.

On getting 'cold shoulder' from the accused, the family lodged complaint with the police.

The police initiated an inquiry and arranged for the medical examination of the complainant. As per police, the accused was taken into custody as his marriage was to be solemnised on September 12.
