A Chhattisgarh man allegedly hacked his 45-year-old elder brother to death for singing in the morning and disturbing his sleep, said police on Wednesday. The crime was reported on Tuesday from Balod district.

The accused, Suresh Kumar, tied his brother, Chinturam, to an electric pole and chopped off his hands and head with an axe. Later, Kumar went to Mangchuwa police station with the murder weapon and confessed to the crime, said police.

Assistant superintendent of police, Balod, JR Thakur, said Kumar was sleeping in the morning when Chinturam started singing. “The brothers lived in the same house but kept to their sides owing to differences. When Chinturam started singing, an enraged Kumar got into a scuffle with him before killing him,” said Thakur. Chinturam died on the spot. “The accused has a criminal background,” Thakur added.
