A fast-track court on Monday sought the Delhi Police’s reply on the plea for a 15-day interim bail filed by one of the accused in the December 16 gangrape case.

Akshay Singh, an accused in the case, wants to visit his mother, who has been hospitalised in Aurangabad and is stated to be critical.

Additional sessions judge Yogesh Khanna asked the police to file its reply by Tuesday on Singh’s plea.

In his plea, Singh said he was the sole bread-earner of the family and there was no one else to even look after his wife and son. The court said it will decide on the application only after the police file their reply.

Meanwhile, during the day’s proceedings, accused Mukesh’s counsel ML Sharma moved an application, seeking action against a police official who said that he had given a “false” statement on oath. The police have been asked to file a reply on this issue as well by Tuesday.

The court also recorded the statement of a prosecution witness, a Delhi Police official, today.

During the cross-examination of the police official, Sharma claimed that the police had planted evidence in the bus as no gang rape took place on the night of December 16.

Claiming that the accused persons have been falsely implicated in the case, the counsel said the police had forced them to sign on blank paper and wrote false statements on their behalf.
